Phased Opening for Olympic Core

Significant Portion of OHS Addition Opens this Fall

Seniors got a sneak peek at the new core in June.Robotics

Olympic High School’s new core will open in two phases beginning this fall.

When next school year starts, OHS will open with more classrooms, a new kitchen and commons space. Construction on the auditorium, library, main entrance, a portion of the commons and remaining classrooms will finish by winter break.

Until construction on the core is complete, students and families will continue to use the temporary entrance, across from the new pedestrian bridge.

Buses will drop off on the Tibardis side of school.

When both phases open, more than 90,000 square feet of our classrooms and core will be new or remodeled for students. We’re particularly excited about the modern career and technical classrooms and labs, such as the robotics and manufacturing labs that will open when school starts.

Need for Phased Opening

We started the project with an aggressive timeline. As we researched and surveyed families and staff, it became apparent that additional work could benefit the educational environment at OHS.

Then, in early 2017, the state granted additional funding, which allowed us to double the size of the project. We were able to include work on more classrooms, replace the auditorium, and updated the kitchen.

Our general contractor, Korsmo, is delivering on the original scope of work and has been working with us on the timeline for the additional projects. We finalized that timeline in late May, allowing us to share which areas we could open.

Safety walls will seal off areas still under construction.

We appreciate how flexible and patient our staff and students have been during construction. We also appreciate the community support that makes this project possible.

Where do we pick up and drop off students?

Please use the front lot (off Stampede Blvd.) and follow the signs to the pick up and drop off area. You will pick up and drop off along the sidewalk near the pedestrian bridge. Using the front parking lot helps us keep students safe. It also helps us be good neighbors during our construction.

Buses will drop students off on the Tibardis side of the school.

Will we have a kitchen?

Yes! Our new kitchen and a portion of our new commons will be open.

What will the lunch schedule be like?

For the first semester, we will have a three-lunch schedule. Check our hours and bell schedule page for times.

Where is the main office?

For the first semester, the main office will be near the temporary entrance. If you were here last year, it’s in the same spot as last year. Come in, turn left and look for the office window.

What new classrooms will be open?

Our new Career & Technical Education lab, manufacturing and robotics classrooms will be open. We will also open our new music and classrooms.

When will the whole school be open?

We expect work to complete by winter break, and all new classrooms, the auditorium and library to be open for second semester.
