GETTING STARTED
There is money available for each of you to help fund your future. The secret to obtaining it is to be prepared.

Step 1: Complete the I AM OLYMPIC Profile Form. This form allows the counseling team to qualify you for scholarships that are not publicly posted, and provides us with the ability to search for scholarships tailored to your specific educational and career goals.
Step 2: Complete your Letters of Recommendation. Identify and ask at least two (2) persons (teacher, coach, employer, or counselor) if they would be willing to provide you with a letter of recommendation. Download the Letter of Recommendation Form below, complete the form, save a copy for yourself, and provide your forms to those individuals. The form provides you an with an opportunity to outline your interests, hobbies, goals, and to "brag" about your accomplishments.
Step 3: Complete your Senior High & Beyond Portfolio by booking an appointment with Mrs. Bach or Mrs. Bartleson in the OHS Career Center (CTE). This platform is where you will be able to keep track of awards/achievements, your resume, and cover letters. This step is a graduation requirement.
Step 4: Consider writing a 300-500-word Biography. Some scholarships require that you describe yourself or submit a biography. You have already started this process by completing your letter of recommendation form. Use the information in your form to help write your biography keep it updated and handy. Remember to save all of your essays!
Step 5: Complete your FAFSA/WASFA Application. Book and appointment with the OHS FAFSA Outreach Advisor to help you (and your family) complete the application process. The Advisor is located in the OHS Library on Tuesday & Thursday's during school hours. Evening hours are also available. Remember to use a personal email address on your application.
You are now ready!

Complete this form to tell us about your family history, financial needs, educational goals and colleges of interest so that we can search and qualify you for internal scholarships not found on publicly posted scholarship site.
Letter of Recommendation Form
This form is a brag sheet about all your accomplishments that the people from whom you request a letter of recommendation will use to formulate that letter.
Place your name on the form and complete the information on the lower portion of the form with your personal, educational, athletic accomplishments, awards and hobbies. Print the form and present it to the person writing your letter.
It is always best to ask the person from whom you wish to request a letter prior to sending them the form. Consider asking teachers, counselors, coaches, volunteer coordinators and employers. Avoid using friends and family members.
Always keep copies your letters of recommendation for future use.

The high cost of college forces many students to give up on their dreams. That’s why OC has partnered with donors to create the OC Promise, a scholarship program that covers the gap between financial aid and the first year of tuition and fees at Olympic College. The program also provides support services to help Promise scholars succeed.
COLLEGE BOUND SCHOLARSHIP
In 2007 the Washington State Legislature established the College Bound Scholarship. This program was created to provide state financial aid to low-income students who may not consider college a possibility due to the cost. The scholarship covers tuition (at comparable public college rates), some fees, and a small book allowance.
Eligibility for the scholarship is a two-part process. Students in 7th or 8th grade whose family meets the income requirements must submit and complete an application by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. Then students must meet the College Bound Pledge requirements and income-eligibility as determined by the student’s financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA) in their senior year of high school.
Foster youth in grades 7–12 (up to age 21) who have not graduated from high school are automatically enrolled. They are considered to have a complete application for the College Bound Scholarship via a data exchange between the Washington Student Achievement Council and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).

OHS FAFSA OUTREACH TEAM
FAFSA opens December 31st and Olympic High School has teamed with Olympic College to provide students and families personal assistance with filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) applications. Appointments are available throughout the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Meet the team and book your appointments below.

Are you already tired of hearing about the new FAFSA?
You’re not alone. The new 24-25 FAFSA application had a soft launch on December 30th. While some families were able to access it, others had a more difficult time. We’re hopeful the government can sort out the issues quickly!
CHANGES TO FAFSA
The current methodology used to determine financial aid, known as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), will be replaced by a new methodology called the Student Aid Index (SAI). The SAI is designed to enhance accuracy and fairness in assessing student aid eligibility. Notable changes include the exclusion of the number of family members in college from the calculation, the allowance of a minimum SAI of -1500, and the implementation of separate eligibility criteria for Federal Pell Grants.

Dear Education Partner,
Starting today, the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) will be submitted using a new platform.
The WASFA is for people who don’t file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) due to immigration status or other federal aid eligibility issues. Learn more about who should complete the WASFA through our questionnaire.
Applications for the 2024-25 academic year will be available in the coming weeks. The release date will be announced on our WASFA page as soon as it is available.
Currently, only the 2023-24 application is available.
Anyone who has already completed a FAFSA does not need to complete a WASFA.
Login information and completed applications remain the same on the new portal, but new applications are simpler, and the platform has a new mobile-friendly look and feel.
Upon completion, applicants are encouraged to contact the financial aid office at their prospective schools to ensure the application was received and inquire about next steps. New and existing user guides can be found on the WSAC WASFA page.

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health
Job Shadowing Experience Program
VMFH is offering Occupational Job Shadowing Opportunities to high school students. This is an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the healthcare field through various professions that contribute to patient care. To assist students in future healthcare career decisions, they have the opportunity to shadow up to 8 hours and/or participate in an extended cohort field experience.
Program Details
The job shadowing experience is intended for high school students ages 16-18 and is a time-limited arrangement allowing the observation of clinical and/or non-clinical staff members in a non-patient facing environment.
Shadowing allows students to follow and observe a healthcare professional while they carry out their responsibilities. Students will be scheduled in 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-hour increments, with an opportunity for an extended cohort field experience through their academic institution.
Eligibility
High school students must be 16-18 years of age. VMFH does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
Job Shadowing Areas
Areas include a wide range of healthcare occupations, such as CNA, Pre-pharmacy,
Pre-physical Therapy, Respiratory, Lab, Radiology, Sterile Processing, Surgical Tech, Patient Advocates, BioMed, Healthcare IT workers, among other fields.

Crosby Days Volunteers
Crosby Days Logging Festival is an annual festival that started in 1983 and is hosted by the Crosby Community Center celebrating the logging history of the PNW. The Women's Club of Seabeck is coordinating the event and seeking students interested in volunteer hours or just to help our local community. The event will be held on August 10th, 2024, and volunteers would be working with the Kid's Corner for 2 hour shifts. The kids corner will be open from 10:00 to 5:00. The volunteers would be helping with the games and passing out prizes. Interested students can sign up below. Olympic College and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health are hosting a healthcare career camp to students of all ages at the Marvin Williams Recreation Center on April 13, 2024 from 10am-2pm. Registration is required to attend this event as space is limited.
